Christian Pulisic named to U.S. squad for Bolivia friendly in Philadelphia

Christian Pulisic will be included in the United States squad for next month's friendly against Bolivia, interim coach Dave Sarachan said on Wednesday.

The game will be held on May 28 at the Philadelphia Union's Talen Energy Stadium -- about 100 miles from Pulisic's hometown of Hershey, Pennsylvania.

The full team will be announced closer to the game, but Sarachan was immediately asked at a news conference if Pulisic would be included.

"Christian Pulisic is going to be a part of the game here against Bolivia," the coach said. "We're excited to have Christian back with us and we're hopeful that we're going to have a lot of familiar faces that are based in Europe as well."

The game will mark Pulisic's first appearance with the national team since October, when the U.S.'s defeat in Trinidad and Tobago ensured the Americans would not be playing in the World Cup this summer.

The 19-year-old is likely to already be in the U.S. ahead of the game, as his club Borussia Dortmund play a friendly at LAFC's new Banc of California stadium six days earlier.

"I'm really excited to play in Philadelphia," Pulisic said from Dortmund in a video. "Obviously it's close to my home and a lot of my family will be there and I'm super excited to put on the U.S. jersey again."

After facing Bolivia, the U.S. will travel to Europe to take on Ireland in Dublin on June 2 before facing France in Lyon a week later, but Sarachan did not say if Pulisic would remain with the team.

The coach said playing three games in succession would be a "little bit tricky in terms of developing rosters and balancing it out with players that are part of Major League Soccer [and] players based in Europe."

The June games are part of the FIFA window, but the Bolivia game is not, and Sarachan said he wary about calling in MLS players for the entire slate as they could miss up to four league games.

"For our match against Bolivia it would be slightly tipped with more Major League Soccer players and when we go to Europe maybe tipped with my European-based players," Sarachan said. "But it will be a blend."

After the news conference, Sarachan told the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News that 18-year-old Werder Bremen striker Josh Sargent would be among those called up.

Sarachan also backed the entire roster of players who were invited to training camp in March ahead of the 1-0 friendly win over Paraguay in Cary, North Carolina.

"Everyone that we brought to Cary and that was part of our roster belonged there," Sarachan said. "When we were finished and I did a little bit of evaluating, I didn't come up with a name that said, 'you know, I don't think this kid belongs.'

"So I was really pleased with many of them, and obviously we had a real disparity of experience. Guys like DeAndre [Yedlin], Bobby [Wood], that had a lot of caps, and then guys like Timmy [Weah] who had zero caps or very few.

"But they all managed to make an impression, and so I would say that rather than pick out one guy that stood out, I think everybody that you saw did well, and even the guys that didn't get on the field, it was a great experience for them."
