United States star Fabian Johnson: Cuba trip was something special

United States international Fabian Johnson has told Express the squad's recent visit to Cuba was "one of the biggest adventures" of his career so far.

Borussia Monchengladbach winger Johnson was part of the squad that played the first United States friendly on Cuban soil in 69 years.

The 28-year-old, who has now returned to Germany, said he would not forget the trip and added: "We took things as they were, and looking back I can only say that it was something really special.

"We are used to wealth. It's just normal for us. But it's only during those moments you realise how other people feel, and what modest means they have to live with."

He added that he had found the people of Cuba "happy regardless" and said: "All of us here can learn a thing or two from them.

"My advice to everyone here is to treasure the things you have and realise nothing should be taken for granted.

"This has definitely been one of the biggest adventure of my career."
