Uganda Cranes' diet must improve, urges President Museveni

Uganda President Yoweri Museveni believes that the Cranes squad's current diet is letting them down, and has urged Sebastien Desabre's team to improve their eating habits.

Museveni made the observation on Tuesday while hosting the national team at the Presidential State House in Entebbe ahead of a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho on October 13.

"Improve the diet of Cranes players," the national president began, as per Africa News. "I watched some of the Africa Cup of Nations games in Gabon, but noticed shots by our players were lacking in power.

"I hope the managers can do something about the diet and training to ensure the players are stronger, like the late [former Ugandan coach] David Otii was."

Uganda are set to face Lesotho in an AFCON qualifying double-header over the next week, having been held at home by Tanzania during the last international break.

"The government will charter a plane to transport the team to Lesotho for their Africa Cup of Nations encounter next Tuesday," Museveni added. "I hope the team maintains their top spot and qualifies for the 2019 championship in Cameroon.

"Each player will also receive a token of appreciation."

Coach Desabre finds himself under increasing pressure after failing to win a competitive game during his first nine months in charge, and the Frenchman will certainly hope that the team's meeting with the president will boost some of his players.

"The support from the President is a sign that he follows and loves sports," Uganda FA First Vice President Justus Mugisha told KweséESPN. "Football has been picking good results partly because of such support.

"This offer will help the team fly in time to Maseru for the game on October 16," he continued. "The team are well prepared and determined to get results.

"This support is a big boost for the motivation of the team."

The Cranes currently lead Group L with four points after their 1-0 win away to Cape Verde last year and a goalless draw against Tanzania in Kampala last month.
