KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi has explained the decision to sign midfielder Sulaiman Mutyaba, with the 28-year-old set to play a key role in the Ugandan heavyweights' CAF Champions League campaign. Former Tout Puissant Mazembe and Al-Merreikh star Mutyaba has been retired since 2016, but has ended his self-imposed after having trained with KCCA FC during the final weeks of the Ugandan season. "We have signed Mutyaba for one year because he is the kind of player who is intelligent and can bring something to the club," Mutebi told KweséESPN. "Mutyaba is a player with lots of experience and he understands football," the coach added. "We are just going work with him and make sure he fits quickly within our style and register him for the Champions League. "We know, with our upcoming games in the CAF Champions League, we will need some reinforcement, and we're also planning for next season as well." KCCA were pipped by Vipers SC in the domestic title race, but have impressed in the Champions League, becoming the first Ugandan side to reach the group stages before defeating Al Ahly 2-0 in Kampala. "I am happy to come out of retirement to join a big club that has big ambition," Mutyaba told KweséESPN. "I hope to help my new club achieve their targets since I have experience playing in the Champions League." While Mutyaba arrives at KCCA, striker Derrick Nsibambi is primed for an exit, having travelled to Egypt on Sunday to finalise talks about joining Egyptian Premier League side Smouha SC. "We feel it is the right time for Nsibambi to try the professional ranks," KCCA FC chairman, Aggrey Ashaba told KweséESPN. "We are still in discussion with Smouha SC and hopefully by Thursday we would have agreed [a deal]."
