Desabre already targeting CHAN triumph with Uganda

Newly appointed Uganda coach Sebeastien Desabre has already outlined his desire to win the African Nations Championship despite only being in the Cranes hotseat for a matter of days.

The Frenchman was appointed as head coach for the East African giants on December 28, but has already revealed that he's aiming to win the tournament which kicks off in Morocco next week.

"The ultimate target would be to win the competition," he told the Ugandan Federation upon his official unveiling. "Maybe it is possible maybe it's not but we will work very hard to do well in the competition."

Uganda have no track record in the tournament for home-based players, but will be buoyed after strong recent showings at the Africa Cup of Nations and during World Cup qualification.

Similarly, Uganda reached the CECAFA Cup semi final in Kenya last month, where they were beaten by eventual runners-up Zanzibar.

"The players are fresh from CECAFA and I am going to watch the videos," Desabre added. "The two friendly games we are going to have before CHAN finals will help us to work on the weaknesses and adjust tactics.

"I need to first evaluate my players," he continued. "I know the Zambian team as well as Ivory Coast. They are strong opponents.

"I am going to check out Namibia and thereafter prepare my team very well."

Uganda begin their CHAN campaign against Zambia in Marrakech on January 14, before facing Namibia four days later. They meet the Ivorians in their group decider on January 22.
