Harry Kane keen to join Premier League's '100 club' vs. Southampton

LONDON -- Harry Kane has targeted joining the Premier League's "100 club" as soon as possible after he broke another record in Tottenham Hotspur's 4-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

Kane scored his 97th and 98th Premier League goals to surpass Teddy Sheringham as the club's all-time leading scorer in the competition. Another brace against Southampton on Sunday will make him the 27th player to score 100 or more Premier League goals since the division's launch in 1992.

Kane has also surpassed Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe, who each scored 91 league goals for Spurs in two separate spells.

"These are three big players that I loved watching growing up and they were such good goalscorers," said Kane, who did not become a Spurs regular until November 2014. "To be ahead of them is quite surreal. I have got to keep going, keep working hard and hopefully keep scoring."

"Teddy, especially, was a big hero of mine growing up. To be ahead of him now is amazing, especially considering I have not been playing in the Premier League that long.

"Hopefully, I can get to the 100 as soon as possible. I always watch the 100 club on TV and to be two goals away now is exciting. Then I'll go onto the next 100. That is what it is about. Always trying to be better, always trying to strive for more."

Kane finished 2017 as the highest scorer in Europe's top five leagues -- the only player to outscore Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in a calendar year since 2009 -- and he also broke Alan Shearer's 22-year-old record for Premier League goals in a calendar year.

The 24-year-old has set his sights on Shearer's all-time Premier League record of 260 goals and Jimmy Greaves' Spurs record of 266 in all competitions but he says he is having to consider his milestones on a monthly basis now.

"I always set my targets a bit smaller -- maybe month-by-month every couple of months -- but if I carry on the way I am going then hopefully [I can catch Greaves], of course," he said.

Kane owed his first goal against Everton to Son Heung-Min's sublime turn and cross, and the England forward hailed the South Korean, who opened the scoring with a goal for the fifth game running.

"He has been amazing all season," Kane said. "He is really growing in confidence and is just getting better and better every game. Everyone was great -- Christian [Eriksen], Dele [Alli]. When you have these sorts of players in fine form, as a striker myself, it is just about getting in the right place at the right time. They have all been great and hopefully it will continue.

"When we are in that form, we are hard to stop. It is important we stay focused and keep that momentum going and take it into the games ahead.

"February is a really tough month for us. We play United, Liverpool, Arsenal and the Champions League as well, so it is important we keep winning and take it into February and see what happens."

Meanwhile, a source has told ESPN FC that Spurs are interested in signing Stevenage Borough centre-back Ben Wilmot, 18, who would join the club's academy.
