Xherdan Shaqiri backed Switzerland teammate Granit Xhaka to bounce back from his penalty shootout miss in the Euro round of 16 2016 defeat to Poland.
Xhaka, who joined Arsenal earlier this summer, blasted his kick well wide of the target as Poland scored all five of their penalties to win the shootout 5-4 after a 1-1 draw.
But Stoke forward Shaqiri, who scored a stunning athletic volley to equaliser for his side and force extra-time, said Xhaka would be able to deal with his failure from the spot.
He told a news conference: "Granit is very professional, so he can cope with this. He will get up and move on. Sometimes you are the best, and sometimes the saddest. That's what you have to cope with.
"Granit will stand up again and continue. I hope he will score in the round of 16 at the World Cup.
"What can I say about this? We're disappointed. We could have achieved something very big. We have to learn from that. We had the same situation against Argentina.
"We're all proud of our effort. We're proud of playing like this in the tournament. We would have deserved to advance. That's football in the end. The penalties are 50-50."
Complimented on his outstanding goal, Shaqiri joked: "You don't know me so well -- I always score nice goals.
"It was a very important goal and was more important for me because it pushed the team and the fans on. Of course, it was beautiful. But in the end we are out and I'm disappointed."
Shaqiri also hit out at Poland's players after they ran to the Switzerland end of the stadium to celebrate their win.
"I don't know what to say," he added. "They are professional players -- they [should] know they have to go to the other side to celebrate. What can I say?"
