Orlando Pirates sign Swansea goalkeeping coach

English Premier League side Swansea City have confirmed that academy coach Andrew Sparkes will join South African club Orlando Pirates as their first team goalkeeper coach.

Sparkes spent six years with the Welsh club's academy, working with the Under-18s and the Under-23s, essentially the reserve team.

"After six years at Swansea City, it's time to move on to the next challenge," Sparkes told the club's website.

"I'm so thankful for the opportunity the club has given me. I've been so lucky to work with so many talented players and excellent staff during my time."

Sparkes joined Swansea in 2012 from New York Red Bull, the club where former Pirates assistant coach Bradley Carnell now works.

Serbian Ivica Vukusic had been the goalkeeper coach at Pirates last season under head coach Micho Sredojevic.

Pirates recently announced the capture of gloveman Brilliant Khuzwayo from Kaizer Chiefs, while the club also currently has Jackson Mabokgwane, Wayne Sandilands, and Siyabonga Mpontshane on their books.

Pirates finished runners-up in the South African top flight last season and will play in the African Champions League, which starts in November.
