Former Swansea City star Michu forced into retirement at 31

Ankle injuries have forced former Swansea City midfielder Michu to retire at age 31.

Michu was Swansea's top scorer in the 2012-13, striking for 22 Premier League goals after moving from Rayo Vallecano for just £2 million.

But the injuries derailed his career and within two years he exited Swansea and was left to play in the fourth tier in Spain.

He played last season with Real Oviedo in the second division but scored just once in 27 games.

Michu's stellar seaon at Swansea saw the club finish ninth in the Premier League and win the Capital One Cup.

His play also earned him a call-up to the Spain national team, with whom he earned a solitary cap in a World Cup qualifier against Belarus in 2013.
