Hull City sign James Weir from Manchester United

Hull City have signed versatile Manchester United midfielder James Weir on a three-year contract.

Weir was United's under-21 captain last season and has made one first-team appearance, coming on as an 89th-minute substitute in the 3-2 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford in February.

The Preston-born 21-year-old, who often plays on the left side of midfield, arrived in Hull for his medical on Wednesday evening.

"I'm really happy to sign to sign for Hull City. It's a really exciting move for myself and I couldn't be happier," Weir said.

"Looking forward to taking on the next challenges head on with the club and hopefully we can progress and succeed together."

He teams up again with former United teammate Will Keane, a 23-year-old striker who also joined Hull late in this transfer window, arriving for £1 million on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Dean Henderson has joined Grimsby Town, newly promoted to League Two, on loan until January.

Henderson was on loan at Stockport County last season before being brought into the United first-team squad during an injury crisis.

He was named in the England under-20 squad last week.

Another young United goalkeeper Joel Pereira, 20, has joined Belenenses in Portugal on a season-long loan.

Pereira, who has represented Portugal at youth levels, also featured on the bench for United during their injury crisis last season.
