Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp proves he and Huddersfield coach go way back

Ahead of the preseason friendly between the two sides on Wednesday night, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has delved into his personal photo archives to prove just how far he and Huddersfield coach David Wagner go back.

The game represents the first time that the former Mainz teammates have been pitted against each other in English football since both left Borussia Dortmund in 2015.

With a healthy dose of nostalgia, Klopp plugged the match by producing a vintage photo of the pair partying together back in the good old days.

"David Wagner is one of my best friends, maybe my best friend," Klopp explained to Liverpool's official club website. "We played a few years together and we didn't only play, we celebrated a few times!

"This is David [on the far left]. If you see him today you cannot believe that's him and that's me! I have a cigar in my hand but that was after the game.

"When I was in Munich I remember playing against 1860 and it was a draw and it was one of my best games for Mainz. Afterwards we went to the Oktoberfest, so it was a good night!"
