Baroka FC stretched their lead at the top of the PSL table after a 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, while Orlando Pirates salvaged a draw.

Having come up through the lower divisions only a few years ago, Bakgaga are in their best ever position in South African football and sit atop the Absa Premiership table with 15 points from seven matches.

Chiefs took the lead at FNB Stadium with a rasping shot from George Maluleka but former Amakhosi striker Lewis Macha equalised with a header before Orlando Pirates loanee Gift Motupa netted a brilliant winner.

It is another poor result for Steve Komphela as the Soweto giants continue an inconstistent start to the season, with the pressure mounting once again.

Pirates played to an entertaining 2-2 draw at Polokwane City. Rendani Ndou and Rodney Ramagalela netted for the hosts, and Thamsanqa Gabuza scored both Buccaneers goals, including a stoppage-time equaliser as he looped a clever header over the stranded goalkeeper.

In the much-anticipated Cape derby that saw a number of connections and various reunions, Benni McCarthy's Cape Town City ran out 2-0 winners over Ajax Cape Town to keep the bragging rights in the more successful blue half of the city.

McCarthy's former West Ham United teammate Victor Obinna opened the scoring with a bustling effort before substitute Judas Moseamedi made the game safe late on with a trickler that looked like it just about crossed the goal-line despite a desperate defensive clearance.

Meanwhile, Golden Arrows lost top spot in the standings after a 1-1 home draw with Chippa United, who scored first in the second half through Katlego Mashego. Knox Mutiza restored parity for Abafana Bes'thende, who are now two points behind leaders Baroka in second place.

Saturday's PSL Results

Ajax Cape Town 0-2 Cape Town City
