Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC and Tanzania's Simba SC have qualified for the quarterfinals of the CECAFA Kagame Club Championships in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Miguel Da Costa's side sealed qualification to the final eight after a 3-0 win over South Sudan's Kator FC in a Group A game played on Wednesday. Duncan Seninde, Steven Mukwala and Yayo Lutimba netted the goals in a game played at the National Stadium.

"I am happy that after two draws and one win we have made it to the knock out stage of this regional tournament. Some of my players a new in the team and lack the international exposure. But we are shaping up well," Da Costa told KweséESPN on Thursday.

The Ugandan champions, who will feature in the CAF Champions League later this year, started the CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Zanzibar's Jeshi La Kujenga Uchumi FC (JKU), before they again drew 1-1 with defending champions Azam FC (Tanzania).

Azam FC topped Group A with seven points to make it to the last eight, having defeated Kator FC 2-1 and JKU FC by the same score.

Also on Wednesday, Group C was also decided after Tanzania Premier League Champions Simba SC drew 1-1 with Singida FC (Tanzania), while Rwanda's APR FC thrashed Dakadaha FC (Somalia) 4-1.

Simba SC topped the group with seven points after they also beat APR FC 2-1 and Dakadaha FC 4-0.

APR are third in the group with three points and will have to wait until after Thursday's games to see if they finish among the best two best losers.

Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC will have to be at their best against Group B leaders Ports FC (Djibouti) on Thursday if they are to make it to the quarterfinals.

Coach Dylan Kerr's side drew 2-2 in their opening match against Rayon Sport FC (Rwanda), while playing out another 2-2 draw in their next game against Burundi's Lydia Ludic FC.

"We are creating so many scoring chances in the tournament and not taking them. Even our defending has not been so good where we have conceded four goals in two games," Kerr told KweséESPN.

Thursday's second game in the group will see Rayon Sport FC take on Lydia Ludic FC.
