Colorado Rapids seal loan deal for Wolverhampton's Joe Mason

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Joe Mason is joining the Colorado Rapids on a year-long loan, the club announced on Tuesday.

Mason, 26, was acquired from Championship-leading Wolves by the MLS club using targeted allocation money.

Rapids general manager Padraig Smith believes Mason will give the club a big boost up front, saying in a statement: "His finishing and movement in and around the box is very intelligent. He'll not only help us from a goal scoring standpoint, but he's also the type of player who makes those around him better. We look forward to welcoming him to Colorado."

Mason, who spent the first half of this season on loan at Burton Albion, is well down the pecking order at Wolves and the club are happy to loan him out as he does not figure in Nuno Espirito Santo's plans at Molineux.

Colorado endured a disappointing MLS campaign last year and has already been busy recruiting players ahead of the new season, with the UK proving to be a regular market used to strengthen their squad.

The Rapids have already brought in Danny Wilson from Rangers, Tommy Smith from Ipswich Town and Jack Price from Wolves this year and they are now on the verge of landing Mason.

Mason said in a statement: "This is an exciting new chapter of my career. I'm very grateful for the support shown by everyone at Wolves during my time there, but the Rapids are an ambitious club and I can't wait to get to Colorado, meet the guys, and help this team reach its goals."
