Manchester United remain relaxed about David De Gea's contract situation, despite having been in talks over a new deal since August, sources have told ESPN FC. After two months of discussion, no progress has been made on his contract, which runs out at the end of the season. The club hold a one-year option in De Gea's deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2020. United face the prospect of losing De Gea for free in 18 months' time. But while the club remain calm about the situation, there is a realisation they will have to match De Gea's ambitions if they are to keep him. United chiefs are hoping Thibaut Courtois' summer move to Real Madrid will work in their favour -- all but ruling out a move to the Bernabeu -- and they are ready to make De Gea, 27, the highest paid goalkeeper in the world if they can convince him of their aim to win Premier League and Champions League titles in the near future. Meanwhile, United have opened contract talks with four first-team stars but still face a battle to keep them at Old Trafford, sources have told ESPN FC. Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Juan Mata and Ashley Young are all in line for new deals and a series of meetings with agents and representatives took place in London last week -- with all four out of contract in the summer. Herrera and Mata, according to sources, are keen to stay if the right deal can be reached. Young is also open to signing a new contract but as he comes to the end of his career, wants to know where he fits into the club's plans. He has lost his place at left-back to Luke Shaw this season and has been restricted to four league starts. The 33-year-old is open to a move abroad, possibly the United States, if it means getting regular first-team football. United have also opened talks with Shaw but the 23-year-old is in no rush to agree fresh terms having only just regained his place in the team following two years on the sidelines under Jose Mourinho. Shaw's future is not dependent on whether Mourinho remains as manager and that his main concern, like Young, is first-team football. After missing out on a place in England's World Cup squad in the summer he is determined to be part of Gareth Southgate's group for the European Championship in 2020.
