Paris Saint-Germain keeper Kevin Trapp rejoins Eintracht Frankfurt on loan

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has returned to his former club Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of the season.

Germany international Trapp joined PSG in 2015 but has slipped to third choice behind Gianluigi Buffon and Alphonse Areola.

The 28-year-old returns to Frankfurt on a temporary basis with no option to buy after the German club's keeper Frederik Ronnow suffered an injury.

"Unfortunately, our goalkeeper suffered a knee injury in preparation that has not quite healed -- it is still bothering him," Eintracht sporting director Bruno Hubner said.

"We believe in Frederik's qualities and we are convinced. However, he has also given us the opportunity to sign Kevin, who is ready to play and is also a very identifiable figure with great leadership potential."

Trapp, who is under contract with PSG until 2020, has made 91 appearances for them in all competitions and won two Ligue 1 titles with the club.

"While in Paris, I regularly recalled my great times in Frankfurt -- notably the 2013-14 Europa League season," Trapp said. "I would like to experience that again, of course.

"It is important that I get back into an environment where I feel good and can play -- I am looking forward to another year with Eintracht."

Meanwhile, PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has said the imminent arrival of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will increase Timothy Weah's competition for minutes.

"With Eric Maxim coming in, it is true that there are many attacking players," he said at a prematch news conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Nimes. "However, Eric Maxim and Timothy have completely different profiles."

Strasbourg and Angers have seen interest in Weah rebuffed in recent weeks.

While Trapp has returned to the Bundesliga from Ligue 1, Juan Bernat has moved in the opposite direction after PSG and Bayern Munich made his switch official.

Bernat, 25, arrives for around €15 million, has signed a three-year contract at Parc des Princes and will wear the No. 14 shirt vacated by Blaise Matuidi last summer.

"I am very proud to be joining PSG," Bernat told PSG's official website. "After my debuts in Spain and my experience in Germany, I will discover a new country and, above all, a new club who have made a spectacular rise in recent years.

"PSG are known throughout Europe, with world-class players, magnificent Parc des Princes and very big ambitions. I am also looking forward to working under Thomas Tuchel, whose work in Germany was remarkable.

"I am truly excited to be taking the next step of my career with Paris."

"We are very happy to welcome Juan," said PSG chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi. "He has a solid experience after playing for two big European clubs along with his status as a Spain international.

"Juan joins us with big ambitions, a desire to keep progressing in a squad of great players and add a new dimension to his career. He also has the character our supporters love."
