Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny wanted by Marseille - sources

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny is a target for Marseille, sources close to the Ligue 1 club have told ESPN FC.

Clubs in France have until the end of the month to sign players, with their transfer window closing on Aug. 31.

Marseille have been alerted to Elneny's possible availability, with the Egypt international facing a battle for a first-team place after the arrivals of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

The 26-year-old was an unused substitute for the Premier League defeat to Manchester City on Sunday with Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Guendouzi starting and Torreira coming off the bench.

Elneny only signed a new four-year deal at Arsenal in March, and it remains to be seen whether they would consider selling him or instead loan him to Marseille.

Earlier this month, coach Unai Emery appeared to rule out the possibility of a permanent move away.

"We only have three players: Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina and Joel Campbell, with the possibility to leave. But the other players are with us," he said.
