Burnley offer Watford's Troy Deeney, 30, five-year deal - sources

Burnley have made a £9 million bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Clarets, yet to make a signing this summer, are keen to strengthen their squad and boss Sean Dyche has made offers for a number of players.

After seeing bids for West Brom striker Jay Rodriguez turned down, Dyche has turned his focus to Deeney, whose future at Watford has been the subject of speculation.

Dyche and Deeney worked together at Vicarage Road, and Burnley are prepared to offer the 30-year-old a five-year deal.

Sources have also told ESPN FC that Burnley expect to sign Swansea midfielder Sam Clucas, with a deal close to completion.

They have also made an improved £13m offer for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson after seeing an initial £12m bid rejected.

Meanwhile, Dyche is considering a move for a goalkeeper after losing England international Nick Pope for several months following shoulder surgery, with a loan switch for Southampton's Fraser Forster a possibility.
