Napoli interest in Manchester United's Matteo Darmian confirmed by president

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed the club's interest in signing Matteo Darmian from Manchester United.

Last season's Serie A runners-up have made signing a new right-back to provide competition for Elseid Hysaj one of their top priorities this summer. PSV Eindhoven's Santiago Arias appeared close to making the move earlier in the transfer window.

But, with the Colombian now looking increasingly likely to sign for Atletico Madrid as a replacement for Inter Milan-bound Sime Vrsaljko, Napoli have been forced to look elsewhere.

"I have asked for Darmian on loan," De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss. "But [also] on our list of [desired] right-backs is [Benjamin] Heinrichs from Bayer Leverkusen."

Napoli have also been strongly linked with a move for Guillermo Ochoa -- and De Laurentiis said the Mexico No. 1 "intrigues me."

Meanwhile, United boss Jose Mourinho, who recently confirmed Darmian can leave Old Trafford, revealed Nemanja Matic would miss the start of the campaign through injury.

"Matic came from the World Cup with an injury and the time he had to rest on holiday was not enough to resolve the problem," Mourinho said.

"He went to Philadelphia for a top specialist and he didn't leave the clinic. He immediately had surgery."
