Manchester United youngsters Zak Dearnley and Callum Whelan sign new deals

Manchester United youngsters Zak Dearnley and Callum Whelan have signed new contracts, the club have confirmed.

The pair had seen their existing deals expire on June 30 but have now agreed fresh terms to extend their stays at Old Trafford.

Dearnley and Whelan, both 19, travelled to a training camp in Austria over the weekend to prepare for the new season with other members of the Under-18s and Under-23s.

Dearnley, a forward, played 19 times for Ricky Sbragia's under-23s last season but has also been involved in first-team training and has been named in the senior squad once by Jose Mourinho.

Midfielder Whelan made nine appearances for the U23s last season.

Dearnley is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Scott McTominay, who started last season in Sbragia's squad before making the step up into Mourinho's first-team squad.

"Look at Scotty," he toldĀ United's website. "He started the season with us but impressed the manager and has gone into the first team and been a big player. In that respect, it gives the young ones the chance to come up."
