Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo will 'look for the best for himself' - Carvajal

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal says he does not know whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be at the Bernabeu next season and that the forward would look to do what was "best for himself."

Ronaldo, 33, spoke in the past tense about his time as a Madrid player directly after last month's Champions League final victory over Liverpool in Kiev.

During an interview with El Transistor from Spain's World Cup camp, Carvajal suggested that only Ronaldo and his advisors knew what was likely to happen.

"I don't know [if Ronaldo is leaving], he will know that himself," Carvajal said. "Since the final I have not had much contact with him. He and his camp will know what decision to make."

Carvajal admitted that he was not particularly close to Ronaldo personally, however he said he hoped that Madrid's record goal scorer stayed at the club.

"He does not live in another world, but it is normal that within a dressing-room there are always groups," he said. "You spend more time with some than others, although we all get on well.

"I am not going to ask him if he is going or not. It is his decision. I hope he stays, but if he leaves for sure he will look for the best for himself."

Carvajal added that he was happy he would not have to face Ronaldo again in the World Cup until a potential final meeting, after he scored a hat trick for Portugal in their group-stage opener against Spain.

"We have had to suffer him too much already," he said. "I hope we don't have to suffer him again, or at least until the final."
