Tottenham eyeing West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi - sources

Tottenham have joined the list of clubs tracking West Bromwich Albion defender Ahmed Hegazi, sources have told ESPN FC.

West Brom face a battle to keep hold of Hegazi this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.

Reports have suggested that Hegazi has a £2.5 million release clause in his contract, but those reports are wide of the mark.

Hegazi, who is set to feature for Egypt at next month's World Cup finals, was one of West Brom's shining lights this season despite their relegation, establishing himself as one of the league's best out-and-out defenders.

Hegazi joined West Brom from Al Ahly originally on loan in the summer of 2017, before making the move permanent five months later.

The towering central defender started all 38 Premier League games for West Brom and his impressive performances have brought him to the attention of a number of clubs.

Tottenham are planning to bolster their defensive options as doubts surround the future of Toby Alderweireld, and Hegazi has emerged on their list of possible replacements for the Belgium international.

West Ham United and Leicester City are also keeping tabs on Hegazi as they look to improve their squads for next season, with West Brom bracing themselves for offers in the defender during this month's transfer window.
