Lucas Perez's return to Deportivo from Arsenal has not worked - agent

Lucas Perez's decision to leave Arsenal to return to Deportivo La Coruna on a season-long loan "was not the best step," his agent has said.

Perez, under contract at Arsenal until 2020, has scored four goals in 26 La Liga appearances for a Deportivo side that is in the relegation zone.

He was booed by an element of the home crowd when he was substituted in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Las Palmas.

"You don't regret it [returning to Deportivo], but obviously it was not the best step," agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle told Cadena Cope radio.

"It's true that, looking at the situation, it was not the best decision.

"I still think he would have taken the same decision because he is a Deportivo fan, but Lucas has too much love and respect for this jersey and he would never say if he did regret returning.

"The player is sad because he came with all the enthusiasm and turned down better offers from a sporting and financial standpoint, because his dream was to return home.

"The season is not going individually and collectively as he had hoped for. He took a risk knowing that coming here it would have been more difficult for him to return to the [Spain] national team, and it hasn't gone well."

Deportivo appointed Clarence Seedorf as their third coach of the season on Feb. 5 but have yet to win under him.

"No one could have thought that Deportivo's situation would be what it is, dramatic," Fernandez Lovelle added.

"It's not nice for Lucas. It's obvious that neither Lucas nor any other player from the team can be happy with the situation."

Depor are seven points adrift of Levante, who hold the last position of safety, with 11 games remaining.
