Man City to open talks with Oleksandr Zinchenko on new deal - sources

Manchester City are to open talks with Oleksandr Zinchenko over a new deal after he has impressed this season, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Zinchenko, who is normally a midfielder, has filled in at left-back recently due to the absences of Fabian Delph and long-term injury victim Benjamin Mendy.

The Ukraine international has started three of City's last four Premier League games and has made nine appearances in total.

City are now ready to hand Zinchenko, who still has three years to run on his current deal, improved terms to reflect his importance to the first team at the Etihad Stadium.

Zinchenko, signed by City from Russian Premier League side Ufa in summer 2016, spent last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

The 21-year-old, who has made four appearances in the League Cup this term, could start Sunday's final against Arsenal as Delph begins a three-game ban for his red card in Monday's shock FA Cup defeat to Wigan.
