U.S.'s Cameron Carter-Vickers joins Ipswich on loan from Tottenham

United States international Cameron Carter-Vickers has joined Championship club Ipswich on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the rest of the season.

Carter-Vickers was recalled from a season-long loan at Sheffield United last week, having played 17 times for the Blades.

However, their manager Chris Wilder had said he club could not guarantee the 20-year-old minutes in the second half of the campaign.

"With the permanent signing of Ryan Leonard, who can play in that position, and Chris Basham making that position his own, I struggled to see Cam getting in on a regular basis," Wilder said.

"I don't think it was fair to stockpile players. I want to keep that good relationship with Spurs and I was totally up front with them that I couldn't guarantee him the game time he could get elsewhere.

"We thank the boy for his contribution."

Carter-Vickers started four Spurs matches in the domestic cups last season and, ahead of his debut against Gillingham, manager Mauricio Pochettino said he could become "one of the best centre-backs in the country."

He made his U.S. debut in November as a substitute in a friendly against Portugal.
