Sergi Roberto agrees new Barcelona deal with €500 million buyout clause

Barcelona have announced that they have agreed a new contract with midfielder Sergi Roberto, which will run until 2022 and contain a €500 million buyout clause.

The club said the date of the official contract signing would be revealed in the next few days.

Roberto came through Barcelona's La Masia ranks after joining from Nastic de Tarragona as a 14-year-old.

He made his first-team debut in 2010 and has since won four La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies, racking up 178 appearances.

Last season, he scored the winning goal as Barca came from 4-0 down to defeat Paris Saint-Germain 6-5 on aggregate in the Champions League.

Roberto had been linked with a reunion with his former manager Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The 25-year-old, who has made 25 appearances this season, had 18 months left on his previous contract and a release clause of £40m.

The Spain international is the second Barca player to commit his future to the club this week following defender Gerard Pique's contract extension.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
