Chelsea youngster Kasey Palmer's season-long loan at Huddersfield Town has been terminated six months early, the player has confirmed.
Palmer was sent back to David Wagner's side in the summer after playing a significant role in their surprise promotion from the Championship last season, when he registered three goals and four assists in 25 appearances.
But after suffering a hamstring injury in September that sidelined him for several weeks, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder failed to re-establish himself in the Huddersfield team, making just four Premier League appearances and one start.
"Unfortunately my time at Huddersfield has come to an end," Palmer wrote on Instagram. "I would like to thank everyone involved at the club but most importantly the fans for their constant support throughout my time.
"The memories which I created here will stick with me forever! I wish the club all the best in the future. Looking forward to the next chapter in my career."
Chelsea are expected to find a new temporary home for Palmer this month, after head coach Antonio Conte confirmed on Tuesday that his first-team squad is unlikely to be reinforced by recalling any of the club's 34 loanees in the manner that Nathan Ake did in January of last season.
"I don't think this is realistic because the players that we send on loan are playing," he said. "I don't see a possibility to come back for some players. I remember last January, Kenedy and Musonda [also] came back to improve our squad, but in this transfer window I don't know."
Palmer joined Chelsea from Charlton Athletic's academy in 2013 and won two FA Youth Cups, two UEFA Youth Leagues and the Under-21 Premier League before gaining his first senior experience on loan at Huddersfield in the 2016-17 season. He has represented England from U17 to U21 level.
