RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper completes transfer to Celtic

Marvin Compper has completed a move from RB Leipzig to Scottish champions Celtic, the clubs have announced.

Defender Compper, capped once by Germany, has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at Parkhead and officially joins on Jan. 1.

The 32-year-old has struggled for game time in Leipzig's youth-orientated system this season, playing only 109 minutes spread out over three matches.

A statement on the club's official website said: "We thank Marvin for a great time together and wish him all the best in Scotland."

Having joined then-second tier club Leipzig from Fiorentina in 2014, he became one of the cornerstones of their rise to German football's top division, in which they finished second last season.

Compper has made 195 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach, Hoffenheim and Leipzig, and also played 16 Serie A matches for Fiorentina between January 2013 and June 2014.

Information from ESPN FC's Stephan Uersfeld was used in this report.
