Everton eyeing up January swoop for West Brom's Jonny Evans - sources

Everton are ready to rival Manchester City and Arsenal for West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans, sources close to the Toffees have told ESPN FC.

New Everton boss Sam Allardyce is expected to make changes to his squad when the transfer window reopens in January and Evans is on his list of targets.

Everton have struggled defensively so far this season, conceding 28 goals in 15 Premier League games, which is the third worst record in the league, and Allardyce is keen to resolve the problem.

Everton have the funds available to compete with City and Arsenal for Evans in January, but it remains to be seen if West Brom would consider selling their key defender midway through the season.

New West Brom boss Alan Pardew is keen to keep hold of Evans as he looks to guide them to safety in the Premier League, but he could consider cashing in on him for the right offer if it allows him to strengthen his squad elsewhere.

Evans' future at West Brom has been the subject of speculation since the summer, with City seeing a couple of bids rejected for his services, while Arsenal also reportedly showed an interest in the Northern Ireland international.

The 29-year-old is entering the final 18 months of his contract at West Brom and the club are expecting renewed interest during the January transfer window.
