Hoffenheim forward Sandro Wagner close to Bayern move - Nagelsmann

Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed a report that Germany international Sandro Wagner is closing in on a return to his former club Bayern Munich.

Wagner, 29, is set to join the Bundesliga champions as backup for star forward Robert Lewandowski.

Earlier this week, German tabloid Bild reported that Wagner's career could come full circle with a move back to the club where he made his Bundesliga debut in 2007.

"It's right, and we've known that for longer than yesterday," Nagelsmann told a news conference ahead of his side's match against Frankfurt.

"We are aware of his interest [in a move]. We will make an announcement if there's something to announce.

"There are no grudges that he's interested, but there is sympathy. It's not my player, he belongs to the club. If the clubs reach an agreement, you try to compensate for things as a coach."

Bild said Hoffenheim wanted at least €10 million for the attacker, under contract until 2020.

After leaving Bayern in 2008, Wagner played for Duisburg, Bremen, Kaiserslautern and Hertha Berlin before rediscovering his best form at Darmstadt in 2015.

After switching to Hoffenheim, he won his first cap for Germany earlier this year and has since scored five goals in seven appearances.
