Juventus join Inter Milan in race for Arsenal's Shkodran Mustafi - sources

Juventus have moved to try to hijack Inter Milan's deal for Arsenal for Shkodran Mustafi, sources in Italy have told ESPN FC.

Inter have been leading the chase for Mustafi as they look to bring the Germany international to Serie A.

However, Juventus have now entered the race for Mustafi as the Italian champions aim to bolster their defensive options before the close of the transfer window.

Juventus have yet to bring in a replacement for Leonardo Bonucci following his surprise switch to AC Milan and have made a bid for Schalke's Benedikt Howedes, but sources have told ESPN FC they are also looking at a deal for Mustafi.

The 25-year-old's future at Arsenal has been the subject of conjecture in recent days and he was dropped to the bench for Sunday's 4-0 hammering at Liverpool.

Arsene Wenger is open to the idea of selling Mustafi as long as he recoups most of the £35 million he spent to sign the defender from Valencia last summer.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Mustafi would also be willing to consider a move back to Italy after spending two years with Sampdoria prior to his move to Valencia.
