Western Sydney Wanderers sign ex-Real Betis winger Alvaro Cejudo

Western Sydney have signed veteran Spanish attacker Alvaro Cejudo as the club's second marquee A-League recruit.

The 33-year-old winger is a former teammate of the Wanderers' other marquee man, striker Oriol Riera, with the two having spent a season together at Osasuna in 2013-14.

Their chemistry will be crucial as the new-look Wanderers seek to become an A-League force again after crashing out of the finals series at the first hurdle.

Cejudo played 17 times in La Liga for Real Betis last season, most of them as a substitute, and is Western Sydney's fifth and final foreign player.

He has spent his entire career in Spain's top two divisions, tallying 155 appearances, 12 goals and 21 assists during his time in the country's top flight.

"We're delighted to welcome a player of Alvaro's quality and pedigree to the squad," said Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas.

"Alvaro has years of experience in one of the top leagues in the world and will be a valuable asset in the front third."

Cejudo will arrive in Sydney later this week to link up with his new teammates and coach Tony Popovic.

His signing comes after speculation the Wanderers were close to signing Nico Martinez, last season's on-loan marquee player, to a permanent deal.

Cejudo is the fifth senior off-season recruit at Western Sydney, following Riera, Michael Thwaite, Roly Bonevacia and Josh Risdon.

The Wanderers finished sixth last season and lost their elimination final on penalties to Brisbane Roar.
