Afcon winner Georges Mandjeck signs for Sparta Prague

Cameroon international Georges Mandjeck has completed a move away from FC Metz to become Sparta Prague's ninth signing of the window, the French club confirmed on their official website.

The central midfielder won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Indomitable Lions earlier this year, and also featured in the Confederations Cup in Russia last month.

"I'm very happy to join Sparta Prague," Mandjeck wrote on his official Twitter handle. "It's a great opportunity for me.

"I can't wait to meet my teammates. It's a great project."

The tenacious operator began his career in his homeland with Kadji Sports Academy, before joining VfB Stuttgart in 2007.

He struggled to establish himself with the Bundesliga side, and after loan spells with FC Kaiserslautern, he joined Stade Rennais in 2010.

Spells with Auxerre and Kayseri Erciyesspor followed, before Mandjeck signed for Metz in 2015. He helped the Moselle-based club climb out of Ligue 2, and featured

He was infamously sent off during the 2008 Olympics for stamping on Italy international Antonio Nocerino.

Mandjeck will have the opportunity to compete in the Europa League with Sparta, as the Czech heavyweights prepare for their third qualifying round clash with either Irtysh Pavlodar of Kazakhstan or Serbian heavyweights Red Star Belgrade.

He will join up with his new teammates on Friday.
