Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez has told Direct TV Uruguay it is his dream to play in the Premier League, but he would sign a "contract for life" if offered one by his current club.
Gimenez, 22, has often been linked to English teams in recent seasons, with Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool among the clubs reportedly interested, and he said the competitive standard of all Premier League games was very attractive.
"I dream about playing in the Premier League because all the games are pretty even," the Uruguay international said. "But if Atletico make a contract for life, I am staying. Atletico have taught me so much since the day I arrived. I'm privileged to be at the club. I'm calm about transfer rumours and I always discuss them with my representatives."
Gimenez remains behind first choices Diego Godin and Stefan Savic in the centre-back pecking order at Atletico, with homegrown youngster Lucas Hernandez also a favourite of coach Diego Simeone.
He often played as an emergency right-back or holding midfielder through the final months of the 2016-17 campaign, and is now in the last 12 months of a contract which ends in June 2018.
However, it remains very unlikely that Atletico will allow any important first-team players to leave the club this summer, given they would be unable to sign replacements before January due to a FIFA-imposed transfer ban.
Highly-sought after Atletico stars Antoine Griezmann, Koke and Saul Niguez have already signed new long-term contracts with the club this summer, as Rojiblanco chiefs look to ensure they do not lose any big names ahead of their move to a new Wanda Metropolitano stadium for the 2017-18 season.
