Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan completes Kayserispor switch

Asamoah Gyan has completed a move to Kayserispor, joining the Super Lig outfit on a two-year deal from Shanghai SIPG.

Gyan had previously been linked to another Turkish side -- Bursaspor -- but Kayserispor confirmed the deal on their official website on Wednesday in a signing that represents a significant coup for the Anatolian Star.

According to a club statement, Gyan also has an option of a one-year extension with the Super Lig outfit, who finished 14th in the Turkish top flight last term, one spot above the relegation zone.

The Ghana captain's move to Turkey ends his six-year absence from the European game, having left Sunderland in 2011 to move to Emirati side Al Ain FC, initially on loan.

The 31-year-old spent four seasons with The Boss, winning three UAE Pro League titles, the UAE President's Cup and the Arabian Gulf Super Cup.

While he became one of the world's best paid players when he moved to Shanghai in July 2015 -- pocketing a weekly salary of £227,000 -- he returned to the Emirates after just over a year, joining champions Al Ahli Dubai on a one-year loan deal.

Before joining Sunderland in 2010, Gyan represented Liberty Professionals in his homeland, Italian sides Udinese and Modena, and Stade Rennais in France.

He was named BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2010, and is Africa's all-time top scorer in the World Cup, with six goals.
