West Ham shift sights on Mexico star Javier Hernandez - sources

West Ham United are planning a move to bring former Manchester United striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez back to the Premier League, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.

West Ham are desperate to bring in a proven goal scorer this summer as they look to add to their attacking options, and sources said Hernandez is their top target.

The Hammers have been frustrated in their attempts to land their targets so far this summer, with the likes of Arsenal's Olivier Giroud, Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi and Manchester City's Kelechi Iheanacho all linked with moves to the London Stadium.

But sources said West Ham have now switched their attentions to Bayer Leverkusen forward Hernandez and believe they can lure the Mexico star back to England.

Hernandez, who is currently away on international duty at the Confederations Cup, left Manchester United for Leverkusen in 2015 having netted 59 goals in 157 appearances for the Red Devils and he has continued to score goals in the Bundesliga.

The 29-year-old has scored 39 goals in 76 appearances for Bayer since his arrival, but they could be forced to cash-in on him this summer after failing to qualify for Europe next season.

Hernandez is entering the final year of his contract at the BayArena and West Ham feel they could tempt Bayer to sell him this summer rather than risk letting him run down his contract.

West Ham struggled for goals last season, scoring just 47 Premier League goals during the 2016-17 season, with Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho struggling with injuries last term, but Hernandez could help solve the attacking problem.
