Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer to wait and see over Mamadou Sakho

New Crystal Palace coach Frank de Boer has said he will "look at what we need" before deciding whether to attempt to sign Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho on a permanent deal.

Sakho impressed for the Londoners on loan last season before a knee injury ended his campaign.

Palace chairman Steve Parish had said the club would hold talks with Liverpool over a possible transfer, but that was before Sam Allardyce resigned as manager.

Speaking about Sakho at his introductory news conference, De Boer said: "He was certainly impressive and important last season, but we will look at what we need.

"First of all I need to see all the players and get a good opinion on them. I know a lot about the team, but it's different when a new manager comes in.

"Already I have my opinion, but I need to see them live to see if my opinion changes."

On Tuesday, Sakho posted a video on his Twitter account of him working out on an exercise bike at Liverpool's Melwood training ground with the message "back to work."

He is likely to leave Liverpool this summer after disciplinary issues last season saw him banished from Jurgen Klopp's first-team setup.

Sources have told ESPN FC that as a result of his form at Palace and Liverpool's belief that there is high demand for centre-backs, his valuation exceeds £20 million.
