Renato Sanches determined to stay at Bayern Munich

Renato Sanches has said he wants to stay at Bayern Munich amid reports linking him with a move away from the Bundesliga champions.

Sanches, 19, winner of the Golden Boy award and voted best young player at Euro 2016, has struggled to meet expectations at the German Champions since his move last summer from Benfica and was named among Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus' "flops of the season."

Sanches only started six Bundesliga games, failing to score or provide an assist in 25 appearances in all competitions -- completing 90 minutes on just one occasion.

"Bayern is a great club," Sanches told Portuguese newspaper Record. "I don't know what will happen, but my principle goal is to stay."

German magazine kicker wrote on Monday that Bayern would be prepared to let the midfielder go out on loan. Beaten Champions League finalists Juventus and Ligue 1 sides Marseille and Monaco are all reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti had previously ruled out selling the Portuguese teenager or sending him out on loan, but Sanches accepts he may spend next season elsewhere.

"If I don't stay, I won't lose heart, but I want to stay and try to do my best," he said.

He said he is keen to secure more game time, adding: "Playing more, I get my confidence up and I feel better."

Bayern paid an initial €35 million for Sanches last summer but the fee could eventually rise as high as €80m, with further add-ons for FIFA Team of the Year recognition or nomination for the final three of the Ballon d'Or.

Sanches was not part of Portugal's squad currently in Russia for the Confederations Cup but played for his country in the European Under-21 Championship.
