Wayne Rooney should consider a move to China if he decides to leave Manchester United this summer, according to Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Rooney is yet to announce where he will play next season after saying in May he had "more of less" come to a decision.
The 31-year-old has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford but has slipped down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho. He has been linked with moves to Everton, the United States and the Chinese Super League but Eriksson, who has managed Guangzhou, Shanghai SIPG and Shenzhen FC, says Rooney and his family would enjoy life in China.
"I haven't spoken to Rooney for a long time, so I don't know what he is thinking, but if he went to China I think he would have a positive experience," Eriksson said.
"He has a young family but there are international schools in the big cities and I know for sure he would have every help possible to make him settle. He would be made very welcome.
"The only problem you have is the language. But if you live in Shanghai or Beijing you have a lot of foreign people, so it is less of an issue.
"I bumped into many Swedish people in Shanghai and many Europeans live there, working for big companies.
"And, don't forget, the players get treated well. They have everything they need and are very well looked after, so for someone like Rooney or Diego Costa that would not be a problem."
If Rooney decides to leave United, China is his only realistic option unless he is willing to take a substantial pay cut.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has hinted at interest in bringing Rooney back to Goodison Park, although sources have told ESPN FC there has not been an official approach.
Following the Europa League final success against Ajax in Stockholm, the United captain said he had offers from "home and abroad."
He has also been on record to say United and Everton are the only two Premier League cubs he will play for.
