Rani Khedira, brother of Sami, joins Augsburg from RB Leipzig

Augsburg have signed Rani Khedira, the younger brother of Juventus' Sami, on a free transfer from RB Leipzig.

Khedira, 23, just like his brother Sami, came through the ranks of Stuttgart's youth academy, and it was there the midfielder made his first appearance in Bundesliga in September 2013.

Following a total of nine appearances in the top flight, he joined Leipzig, then still in the second tier, the next summer. However, he failed to become a permanent fixture in the club's starting XI, especially after they moved up to Bundesliga in 2016 and he was told he could leave on a free transfer.

On Thursday, Augsburg announced the capture of the midfielder on a four-year contract.

"FCA managed to stay up after an exciting end to the season. Now I want to help the club to continue to establish itself in the Bundesliga and take the next steps in my career," Khedira told the club's official website.

Sporting director Stefan Reuter said he was pleased with the midfield addition and highlighted Khedira's potential.

He said: "In Rani Khedira we have signed a young talent with a huge amount of potential. We're certain that, with his quality, he can help the team over the next few years."
