Manchester United's Ander Herrera set to snub Barcelona move - sources

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is prepared to turn down a summer move to Barcelona, sources have told ESPN FC.

Herrera is reportedly a transfer target for incoming Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde, but the sources said the 27-year-old -- United's Player of the Year this season -- would turn down the chance to move to the Camp Nou.

Herrera worked with Valverde at Athletic Bilbao before joining United in a £24 million deal in 2014.

Valverde quit as manager at San Mames at the end of the season to take over from Luis Enrique at Barcelona, and Diario Sport reported that Herrera is one of his top summer targets.

Herrera has a year left on the four-year United contract he signed in 2014, with the option for an additional year.

He is expected to start preliminary talks about an extended deal next season.

Asked ahead of the Europa League final whether he could end his career at United, he told ESPN FC: "Yes, to finish your career in this club you have to perform every season, and it's not so easy.

"I think a lot of players have the quality to make a very good season, but the most difficult thing is the consistency. I am still 27.

"Hopefully one day you can compare me with legends of the club, but you cannot do it yet.

"I have to perform for a long time for the biggest and the greatest club in England, so it's not so easy."
