Eintracht Frankfurt have suspended on-loan Manchester United right-back Guillermo Varela after he got a tattoo against the club's advice.
Varela, 24, suffered an inflammation as the result of the tattoo and will now miss Saturday's DFB Pokal final against Borussia Dortmund.
Frankfurt also announced in a statement that they now have no interest in making the deal permanent.
He joined Frankfurt from Manchester United on a one-year loan last summer, but injuries reduced his playing time to just 10 competitive appearances.
However, he featured in the last four league games, and was set to be named in Eintracht's DFB Pokal final squad at the weekend, and had been hopeful of staying in the city beyond the summer, saying earlier this month that he preferred living in Frankfurt to Manchester.
However, when Varela got a tattoo on Monday against club coach Niko Kovac's orders, and it led to an inflammation, the defender's hopes of playing the cup final and getting a permanent contract or signing another loan deal ended.
"His behaviour was reckless and hurts the team," sporting executive Fredi Bobic said in a statement on the club's official website. "Guillermo's path at Eintracht ends here. The club can't put up with a player acting against the coach's and doctors' instructions.
"We were already considering extending his loan. But that's naturally no longer an issue. Guillermo will be suspended with immediate effect."
