Anderlecht's Youri Tielemans set for Monaco despite Manchester City talk

Reported Manchester City target Youri Tielemans is set to undergo a medical at French champions Monaco on Wednesday.

City had been linked with Tielemans, but the Belgian club's sporting director Herman Van Holsbeeck has confirmed the midfielder is set for Monaco.

Tielemans flew into Nice airport on a private jet on Tuesday before making the short trip to Monaco where he is expected to have a medical.

"Tielemans will be Anderlecht's record transfer," Van Holsbeeck told Nieuwsblad ahead of what is expected to be a €25 million move. "The only thing that is still in the way of the transfer is the medical tests, but they are scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday. Monaco is the ideal club for Youri.

"Youri really wants a club where the coach wants to work with him. Last season he already told me: 'I do not want to go to Manchester where I'm another number on the list.' If the transfer works out, he can join Anderlecht's pantheon with [Manchester City's Vincent] Kompany or [Everton's Romelu] Lukaku. "

Monaco, who picked up their first French title since 1999-00 at the end of a thrilling campaign, are set to add another young, talented played to Leonardo Jardim's squad in Tielemans, who was voted Belgium's Player of the Year after registering 13 goals and as many assists in 37 league games last term.
