Mateo Musacchio is bidding to strengthen AC Milan's defence after flying to Italy for a medical.
The 26-year-old Argentina international has enjoyed seven successful seasons with Villarreal but appears poised to swap La Liga for Serie A after Milan announced he was in the city for medical examinations.
If the move goes through Musacchio will help the Rossoneri rebuild under their new Chinese owners.

The seven-time European champions must take part in Europa League qualifying in the summer after struggling to secure sixth place in the Italian top flight this term.
Only Lazio have conceded more league goals among the clubs who have qualified for Europe and Milan boss Vincenzo Montella has not found a preferred back-line combination across the season.
