Man City weighing up an offer for Middlesbrough's Victor Valdes - source

Manchester City are considering a move for Middlesbrough goalkeeper Victor Valdes, sources close to the North-East club have told ESPN FC.

Valdes, 35, is expected to leave Middlesbrough this summer in the wake of their relegation from the Premier League and City are monitoring his situation.

City are in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements this summer with Willy Caballero out of contract next month and yet to be offered a new deal, and while Joe Hart is due to return from his season-long spell at Torino, he appears to have no long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.

There have also been question marks over Claudio Bravo's future after a far from convincing debut season at City following his arrival from Barcelona.

City boss Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of Valdes after enjoying a trophy-laden four-year spell together at Barcelona.

The former Spain international fits the style of goalkeeper Guardiola wants in his City side as he is comfortable playing with the ball at his feet and has experience of playing in the Premier League.

Valdes, who has made 28 appearances and kept eight clean sheets this term, has a year to run on his contract at Middlesbrough, but the club are unlikely to be able to afford to keep him in the Championship next season.
