Aston Villa have completed the signings of Birkir Bjarnason from Basel and James Bree from Barnsley for undisclosed fees. Bjarnason, 28, has penned a contract with Steve Bruce's Villa side until 2020, while Bree, 19, has committed himself to the club until 2021. Bjarnason, who was a member of Basel's Swiss Super League title-winning squad last season, is looking forward to life with the Championship club. "I'm delighted to have signed for Aston Villa," he told the club's official website. "It's a very big club. I am now looking forward to getting out on to the pitch and helping the team." Bjarnason was a key member of the Iceland side that reached the quarterfinals of Euro 2016, scoring the nation's first-ever goal at a major tournament in their opening game against Portugal. Bree added on his move: "I'm delighted it's finally all gone through. It's going to be great to get started to see what I can do for the team. It's a massive club and belongs in the Premier League. Pushing for promotion is definitely the first thing I want to help the team do. I can't wait to meet all the lads now."
