Danilo Barbosa signs for Benfica on season-long loan from Braga

Former Valencia midfielder Danilo Barbosa has joined Benfica on a season's loan from Braga, his new club have announced.

Danilo, 20, joined Valencia from Braga 12 months ago in a loan deal which reportedly included an option to buy this summer for €15 million, as part of an investment in emerging stars signed by Valencia's owner Peter Lim on the recommendation of Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes.

The former Brazil under-20 captain struggled to show signs of potential greatness under coaches Nuno Espirito Santo, Gary Neville and Pako Ayestaran last season, and the Liga side decided against taking up their option earlier this summer.

This cleared the way for the youngster to complete a one-year loan move to Benfica, and he said at his presentation at the Estadio da Luz that he was delighted to be now joining the Portuguese capital club.

"I am very happy to be joining Benfica," Danilo said. "I cannot put into words what it means to join this great club. I am now looking forward to helping Benfica achieve their objectives this season."
