Croatia fined by FIFA for anti-Serbia chants by fans

ZAGREB, Croatia -- The Croatian football federation said it was fined 50,000 Swiss francs (€46,300) by FIFA for "inappropriate behaviour" by fans at a World Cup qualifying match against Kosovo.

Fans of both teams were heard chanting "Kill, kill the Serbs" in their own language during Croatia's 6-0 win on Oct. 6.

FIFA also opened a disciplinary case against the Kosovo federation.

Kosovo's first competitive home game since joining FIFA in May was played in Shkodra, Albania, because the former province of Serbia does not yet have an approved stadium.

FIFA already barred Croatia fans from their first two home games in qualifying after previous incidents involving fans. The second of those games is against Iceland in Zagreb on Nov. 12.
