Schalke have announced they will punish players by making them work in the club shop rather than fining them. With players able to pay fines more easily than ever due to Bundesliga salaries continuously increasing, Schalke have decided to introduce new disciplinary measures for the upcoming season to ensure players are actually punished for their wrongdoings. "You can't really hurt the lads with fines," Schalke sporting executive Christian Heidel told Sport Bild. "We also have the leisure time punishment. And it might happen that players have to work in the club shop on their free day instead of getting fined." New head coach Domenico Tedesco already introduced similar measures for offences like violent conduct leading to a red card, showing up late for training or going out the before match days. Bild also reported that another punishment could be welfare work for a charity organisation. The players are set to be informed about the club's new measures in their upcoming training camp in Austria.
