Samuel Eto'o to join Qatar Sports Club on free transfer

Former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o will join Qatar Sports Club on a free transfer, the Qatari club announced late on Monday.

The 37-year-old forward -- who had also played at Inter Milan and Chelsea -- recently wrapped up a three-year spell in Turkey with Antalyaspor and Konyaspor.

His new club tweeted that it expects to present Eto'o on Tuesday.

Eto'o had previously said he wanted to finish his career in France.

"What I want is to keep playing football. I want to play for another two seasons and then end my career and start a new life," the former Cameroon international told RFI last week.

"I know how to score goals, that's what I've done all my life and that's what I'll continue doing," he said. "It's more difficult for defenders because there comes a time when you don't have the pace you had, but even if I'm not as fast as I was when I was 20, I am still quick and I make up for the rest with experience."

Eto'o is Cameroon's all-time leading goalscorer and a three-time UEFA Champions League winner, two-time African Cup of Nations champion, and four-time African Player of the Year.
